The internet is an amazing source of knowledge. You could basically learn anything and more often than not, you can learn it for free. I’ve enrolled in my fair share of online courses over the years. Today I am sharing some of my favorites with you in terms of quality and usefulness.
Learning new things
Whenever I am “bored” I like to learn new things (not that it happens that often). I love browsing through all the different online courses and saving the ones I find most interesting for later. I’ve learned a lot about a wide range of topics. My favorite categories are business, coding, language, and writing. However, there are many more topics for you to choose from. You just have to find one (or a few) that work for you!
There are several different platforms you can use to do online courses: Udemy, Coursera, Teachable and even Youtube. My personal favorite is Udemy. It has so many free options! I recommend you browse through it every now and then because new courses are added almost every day.
The Secret Sauce of Great Writing is probably the first online course I ever enrolled in back when I first discovered Udemy. It’s one of the most popular courses and with good reason! The main focus of the course is to teach you how to write well. It doesn’t matter if you want to write a book, a blog or even a CV, everyone who writes should take this course. It doesn’t take long and it’s amazing. They also offer a 2.0 version. The key take-away from this course is that great writing needs three things:
Ever since I read the 4-Hour Work Week, I’ve been interested in generating passive income. The idea of passive income is that you make money without having to exchange it for your time. In short, sleep and get rich! (It is nowhere near that easy, don’t be fooled). I’ve been taking a couple of courses and reading a few books on the matter and I found this course to be one of the best (free) sources of information. In the course they talk about proven business ideas for generating passive income and they have a step-by-step plan for you to follow. This course is for anyone ready to quit their 9-5 job and everyone who would like to make more money on the side.
Everyone should take this course! I’ve talked about the importance of setting goals on my blog before and I still think it’s one of the best things you can do for yourself to get ahead in life. This course teaches you to take a huge life goal and turn it into daily action steps so you will actually achieve that dream! It’s for anyone interested in personal development and if you ask me, it’s worthy of your time!
This course is a bit more specific. Okay, maybe a lot more specific… The reason I took this course is because my dream job is writing narrative for a video game. It’s a great course! It helps you understand how writing for the game industry works and how to build a portfolio. If you are like me, dreaming of a career in narrative design, then definitely check this course out!
This short, to-the-point course is great when you’re starting out as a blogger. The course instructor is Tyler Speegle, a blogger and Huffington Post contributor. He introduces some tools that will make a big difference when you run a blog. I’ve been using some of these tools for a while now and they’re really helpful. After all, even if you discover just one tool that works for you, it’s worth it! Some of these help you save a lot of time and stress, so I’d suggest starting with this one soon!
I hope you found at least one course on this list that you would like to try. If you already take online courses, I’d love to know your favorites! Please share them below in the comments!
With much love,
