Reading

I absolutely love reading. To be frank, I don’t really make enough time for it. Life happens, social media is too much fun (come hang out with me on Twitter or Instagram) and I can never really decide on the next book, my to-read list is just too long. The choice stress is real.

If you have that same problem, let me help you. Read these ten awesome personal growth books next! Seriously, they’re great. I will list each book with a short description of what I think is so great about them. Happy reading!

#1 The 4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss

Probably the single most inspirational book I have ever read. Who doesn’t think working a few hours a week from a hammock somewhere while you still make loads of money sounds like a dream? I know it definitely seems idyllic to me. Give up the life as a ‘desk slave’ (his words, not mine) and become part of the New Rich.

“What we fear doing most is usually what we most need to do.” - Tim Ferriss Click To Tweet

#2 The Lean Startup by Eric Ries

I actually worked with the method for the Lean Startup during my study program where we had to set up a business for a year. I love the idea behind build-measure-learn loops. You basically build your business with your client, based on fixing their problem(s). If you’re dreaming of starting your own business, this is a must-read if you ask me.

“The question is not can it be build, but should it be build.” - Eric Ries Click To Tweet

#3 Tribes by Seth Godin

This book is about how powerful social organization can be. Tribes are groups of people connected through a cause, a passion, a leader and/or each other. Godin states that the world needs more heretics (people questioning the status quo and do things without asking for permission) instead of sheepwalkers (conditioned people afraid of change) and writes about what is good leadership.

“The market for something to believe in is infinite.” - Seth Godin Click To Tweet

#4 Originals by Adam Grant

Originals is about unleashing your creative potential and how to find support for your ideas. Originals are people who take the initiative to make their unique vision reality. Also, he says when you use procrastination strategically, it can work creative wonders. That really resonated with me, haha!

“Quantity leads to quality when it comes to generating great ideas.” - Adam Grant Click To Tweet

#5 Lead with a story by Paul Smith

I am a big fan of stories. I believe storytelling is a very powerful way to get your message across. Paul Smith’s book is a great read when you want to discover the secrets of storytelling too. Storytelling can improve every aspect of your business.

“A successful story is comprised of only three ingredients: context, action and a result.” - Paul Smith Click To Tweet

#6 Getting Things Done by David Allen

Want to be truly productive? Read this book! This book has helped me get more organized and have a better headspace to focus. I love his idea for a collection bucket; a collection of every thought that distracts you. You just write it down and look at it later, so you won’t forget, but won’t get distracted by it right now. His method saved me so much time.

“If you don’t pay appropriate attention to what has your attention, it will take more of your attention than it deserves.” - David Allen Click To Tweet

#7 The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod

I have mentioned this book before, I know, but I just love this book so much! It has helped me transform my morning routine and start my days so positive. I just want to tell everyone about how great it is so they can experience that awesomeness too. Start your day right with your Life S.A.V.E.R.S. (Silence, Affirmations, Visualization, Exercise, Reading, Scribing).

“Your entire life changes the day you decide you will no longer accept mediocrity for yourself.” - Hal Elrod Click To Tweet

#8 How To Win Friends And Influence People by Dale Carnegie

This book has taught me so much when it comes to how to treat people and how to make them feel appreciated. I never thought just smiling and remembering someone’s name could make all the difference, but it can. This book will teach you how to be a likeable human being that people love to be around (and help).

“You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you.” - Dale Carnegie Click To Tweet

#9 #GIRLBOSS by Sophia Amoruso

Yes, this one absolutely needs to make the list. #Girlboss is the inspiring story of Sophia and how she became a multimillionaire by hustling hard. Her book has inspired thousands of women across the globe to start their own business and I am so happy about that! Her writing style is also really great and funny.

“There are secret opportunities hidden inside every failure.” - Sophia Amoruso Click To Tweet

#10 The Element by Ken Robinson

The Element is one of the most inspiring personal growth concepts ever. It actually helped my find my purpose. What I am doing here with my blog is roughly based on this idea. Your element is where your talents and passions come together. It’s what you love doing and what you’re good at doing. In his book Robinson explains how it is the key to happiness and satisfaction. Ken Robinson is an inspiration to me, so his book couldn’t not be on this list.

“For most of us the problem isn’t that we aim too high and fail - it’s just the opposite - we aim too low and succeed.” - Ken Robinson Click To Tweet

I always get my books at Book Depository because they offer great (reduced) prices on their books and free worldwide shipping. If you haven’t done your holiday shopping yet, consider getting one of these books for a friend or family member. I am sure they will love them too!
