Pep Talk For The New Year

With everyone making big plans for a New Year and New Me, I figured we could all use a pep talk. Some kind words and encouragement. A little something to read when you feel like you aren’t going to make it or when you feel like a failure. I’m here to tell you that you are not. In fact, you’re doing great!

Happy New Year

First of all, Happy New Year! I hope you had an amazing New Year’s Eve and that you’re excited for 365 days of blank canvas, ready for you to be painted. I am confident that 2018 is going to be a great year for you. How do I know that? Because you decided to read this blogpost! That means that you are at least thinking about going on your personal development journey and you feel like you could use a (gentle) push in the right direction with this pep talk. Well, you’ve come to the right place!

No pressure

Let me start my pep talk with saying that no matter how much (or how little) you choose to do this year, it is enough. You are enough. You don’t have to set gigantic goals for yourself in order to start living a happier life. Every step you take is a step in the right direction. You don’t have to sprint. A slow but steady pace will get you there too.

The start of a new year is usually when I feel the most pressure to be the best version of myself. I feel like I have to set huge goals and do better than I did last year. I’m going to start living what I preach and start telling myself (and you) that it’s okay if not everything works out the way you planned. That’s life. Sometimes things happen, priorities change and other great possibilities come along. You don’t have to achieve everything on your list. Just do the things you really want to do and that’s more than enough.

This year is going to be great for you. So live it. Stop and smell the flowers at least every once in a while. What good is a dream life when you’re not enjoying it? Take enough moments to focus on the things you’re grateful for, proud of and take time to just breathe. Do what feels good in the moment and do not always just focus on the long term. It’s great to look ahead and keep where you want to go in mind, but live in the now. After all, that is where all the magic happens.

It’s okay

No year (not even a week) is entirely perfect. We all have ups and downs. It’s perfectly okay not to be okay. As long as you don’t keep being down. Try to pick yourself up. Make a list of all the things that make you happy, no matter how small and look at it every time you need it. Sometimes a cup of tea and a good book can do wonders.

Cut yourself some slack. You don’t have to be perfect and your life doesn’t have to be either. It most likely won’t be and that’s fine. Let go of being perfect. You are good enough just the way you are.

You are…

More than just good enough, you are amazing. You are smart, strong and beautiful inside and out. You made it this far in life and you’re doing an awesome job. You’re working on yourself. You’re trying to improve even when you’re already doing great. I am so proud of you and really, you should be too. You have already achieved so much, even when you feel like you didn’t do enough or think the things you do aren’t that impressive. They are, believe me. You are absolutely wonderful and I mean that from the bottom of my heart.

Let me be your mirror

There have been plenty of times in my life where I couldn’t see my own self worth, my beauty or my skills. I had a really hard time accepting myself and chances are you struggle with that too. If that’s the case, let me be your mirror. Let me tell you what I see. I see a great person with their heart in the right place. A sweet and caring human being working incredibly hard to find their place in this world. An absolutely gorgeous face and a smile that puts the sun to shame. You are radiant!

You’re going places

No matter where you decide to go in life, I know you’ll succeed at what you want to do. You are hardworking and determined. Once you know where you want to go, don’t look back. You are a boss and can take control over your own life. I’m sure you won’t let anything or anyone hold you back. You will prove all the doubters wrong and you will do the impossible. You will shoot for the stars and realise that not even the sky is the limit.

I can’t wait to see all the wonderful things you set out to do and how well you’re going to handle the hardships this year will bring. You are tough. Nothing can or will break you. You’ve got this. I know it.

Some sound advice

Even though you are strong enough to manage yourself in every crisis, it’s best to avoid as much drama as you possibly can. Nobody likes a bad day. Just because you won’t be brought down by it doesn’t mean you should allow it. Make 2018 the year you cut out all the toxic things from your life. Yes, that includes people. As a matter of fact, unhealthy relationships should be the first thing to go. I have a golden rule that people should at least make you gain as much energy from spending time with them as you put in.

It’s okay to break up with people that drain you of your energy. It’s okay to leave them in 2017. That’s where they belong. You deserve to be surrounded by lovely people who support you and see you as the amazing person you really are. There’s no room for people that try to bring you down. They’re just a waste of time and energy.

Go get ‘em

Before you go about your day again, I want to tell you that I truly mean everything I’m saying here. You might argue that I don’t even know you and I can’t know if you’re beautiful and strong and amazing. While that might be true in some cases, I still stand behind every word I said. Get to know me and I will prove it to you time and time again that I believe in you and that you can achieve everything you want out of life. I will be here every day of this year and the next to cheer you on in your journey to become a passionate, happy person.

You rule.

With much love,
